In collaboration with Kastrup Sajl Klub Hobie Cats we have organized this event to allow Helgoland Surfers to experience the thrills of sailing Hobie Cats.
What is it?
Hobie Cat were designed in 1967 by Hobie Alter, a surfer in California who combined the thrill of surfing with a beach catamaran. The Hobie Cat was born. There are many models available, but the Hobie Cat 16 (16 foot long), designed in 1969 became the benchmark with over 140,000 boats sold worldwide and is the most sold and popular catamaran in the world today. It is a Class boat, meaning that there is one design from 1969 until today ! There have been some minor improvements over the years, but essentially all boats are identical. Regattas are still carried out every year with the European Championships being held in Spain next year, and 3 years ago in Hornbæk. Danish Hobie Cat sailors are some of the best in the world today and are invited to participate worldwide where Hobie Cat provides new boats for all invited sailors.
You will find that Hobie Cat sailors are not quite like other sailing club people, we are surfers at heart as the Hobie Cat is designed to surf waves and be on a beach.
The Hobie Day
Four Hobie Cat 16 sajl Jolle will be available, on Amagerstrand beach on the 5th
June from 10 am until 17 hrs, for signed up participants to join one Hobie Cat skipper for Helgoland Surfer members to join as a crew. If the weather is terrible, too windy, pouring with rain, then we have agreed to postpone the event until the following Saturday 12th June.
What you need to do.
To participate please sign up here and send 200 Dk by mobile pay to 22 55 60 78. That is Peter Flower’s phone. I will keep a list of all payments so come and find me on the day so I can register you as participating. All money will be 100% refunded on the day, when you show up. No shows will not be refunded. No show monies will be sent to Kastrup Sajl Klub.
Postponed?
In the event that the 5th June is postponed due to too much wind and you can’t make the possible alternative date of 12th June, please call me and you will get a refund.
Please note the intention of the 200 Dk is simply to get commitment to show up, since we are asking four Hobie Cat Skippers to take a Saturday away from their families to allow for you to experience Hobie Cats, so we ask this for respect to their commitment.
Join the Hobie Day
We hope you join this day and I look forward to seeing you on the beach in a wetsuit and ready to sail with your neg Covid test available.
We also hope to have a BBQ in the afternoon/evening Covid and weather permitting

In the event we do not reach the minimum number of 10 participants the event will be cancelled and all monies refunded.
