Welcome to a brand new season! With May 1st marking the official kickoff, it's time to dust off those wetsuits and embrace the exhilarating rush of wind and waves once again. So grab your gear, feel the wind in your hair, and get ready for the new season with the latest Helgo news.
1. Member deals
A new season might mean new gear, a new wetsuit - or perhaps an upgrade? Whatever you might need, remember that we have some great member deals and discounts with local surf shops like One Open Sky, Kajakhotellet, and Frozen Palm Tree.
We also have a new member deal with the local coffee/drinks/snack place, Nordhavn Coffee Room at Bunker 3 right next to Copenhagen Surf School. They’re graciously giving Helgo members a 15% discount in their shops located in Bunker 3, Georg Brandes Plads, and Bellevue Strand.
You can see all the MEMBER DEALS on the website. If you’re asked to show a membership card to get your discount, you’ll find it on your profile on Klubmodul - also available on your Klubmodul app (click the small “card” in the right-hand corner).
2. Beginner workshops
As we dive into the exciting new season, it's the perfect time to take advantage of our upcoming windsurfing workshops. For our newest members who have recently joined our club, we extend a warm welcome! We're thrilled to have you on board and can't wait to share the thrill of surfing with you.
Throughout the season, we offer a range of windsurfing workshops tailored to different skill levels: beginner, beginner+, and intermediate. These workshops are not only an incredible opportunity to hone your skills but also completely free of charge for our members.
To participate in these workshops, simply sign up on Klubmodul under EVENTS.
Spaces are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, so be sure to secure your spot early. Sign-up for the workshops opens a week before, and you can see dates for upcoming workshops in the CALENDAR.
2. Youth Department
Our Youth Department has just geared up for another exciting season of surfing with their weekly workshops every Tuesday. It's the perfect opportunity for our young surfers to train and improve their skills - and remember that after the training sessions, it's BBQ time!
If you're a parent, be sure to join our Facebook group Helgoland Surfers - Ungdomsafdeling to stay updated on all Youth Department activities.
All upcoming Youth Tuesday workshops are announced on Klubmodul under EVENTS, where you can easily sign up for you and your kids to participate.
3. Workdays
Let's talk about Workdays! Throughout the season, we host several workdays dedicated to maintaining our club and keeping our gear in top-notch condition. All members are required to complete at least 1 workday per season - and if you don’t, you’ll have to pay a fee of 500 DKK at the end of the season.
Why do we have workdays? Well, it’s really quite simple. Everything you see done, repaired, built, etc. at the club is done by members. And we use workdays to avoid paying anyone external to fix all the things we know, we can take off with the handy DIY-help of members.
But don't let the term 'workday' fool you - these events are just as much about socializing and having fun as they are about getting things done.
If you want to know more about our workdays, check out the newly updated section on the website under WORKDAYS - where we’ve also included some ideas for getting a workday completed, if you’re unable to attend any workdays planned by the board.
Last season, 156 members paid a fee of 500 DKK for missing a workday which is quite a lot! The money from this fee goes directly back to the club, so please know that you’re contribution is very valued. But we would still prefer that as many members as possible get their workday done instead of paying the fee. You have until April 30th, 2025 to complete your workday for this season.
4. Helgo Hangout
And speaking of workdays… Did you know that hosting a Helgo Hangout earns you a workday?
Every Thursday, we invite all members to join us at the clubhouse from 6:30 PM onwards for an evening of surfing, chilling, BBQing, and soaking up the sun. But here's the catch - we need someone to step up and host each Thursday. Hosting simply involves opening up the clubhouse, setting up the soundbox with your favorite playlist, and firing up the BBQ. It's easy peasy!
Inside the clubhouse, you'll find a helpful to-do list for hosting, along with a sign-up sheet where you can volunteer to host a Helgo Hangout. It’s the perfect way to complete your workday and keep the good vibes flowing!
5. Event Team
Last but not least, we're all about the surf life, and that includes our infamous parties! But none of our awesome events would be possible without the help of our dedicated members - like you! We believe in the power of teamwork, and we're calling on you to lend a hand in planning our upcoming Summer party and Christmas party.
We already know the dates but what our upcoming parties should be like - well, that's entirely up to you if you join our Event Team. Your creativity and input can shape the atmosphere and activities, making it an unforgettable experience for everyone.
