Æloha

We’ve got plenty of exciting updates and important news to share with you, so whether you’re taking a break from the waves or just dreaming of your next session, take a moment to catch up on what’s happening at the club.

1. 2025 Project & New Clubhouse Progress

We know everyone is eager to hear about our 2025 project and the new clubhouse. Rest assured, we’re making steady progress to secure our future at Amager Strandpark.

Our lease is up in 2025, and while we initially planned on extending it, the prospect of a steep rent increase led us to explore a Right of Use Agreement (Brugsaftale). This agreement will allow us to stay in our beloved spot without the hefty rent. In return, we must report on and maintain a fixed number of activities like our windsurfing workshops, youth department workshops, beach cleanups, and open house event.

We’re currently working closely with Københavns Kommune to secure this Right of Use agreement, and our goal is to finalize it by the end of the year. The agreement runs for three years, but as long as we fulfill the agreed-upon activities, it can be renewed for many years. Additionally, we can apply for a special dispensation for a one-time extended agreement if needed during our future building project.

Fundraising & The New Clubhouse: Building our dream clubhouse is a massive task, and we’re fully committed to making it happen. At our General Assembly in March, we approved a budget to kick off fundraising, and we’ve brought in the pros at Primus Motor to help us reach our goals. They’re hard at work, and with the help of the board and a team of volunteers, we’re aiming to submit our first fundraising applications by the end of the year.

As we plan for the future, we’re exploring all options that will enhance our eligibility for funding while preserving our vibrant community and the unique Helgo vibes. All ideas are on the table, and we welcome your input! If you’d like to share your ideas, please join us at the Creative Workshop on Thursday, September 5th from 5 PM at the clubhouse - SIGN UP HERE.

2. Damaged Gear Alert

On a less sunny note, our gear is taking a serious beating, and our repair team is struggling to keep up. We know accidents happen, but please be mindful of the equipment and follow our guidelines.

Right now, we have 12 broken windsurf hardboards awaiting repair, and the process to fix them is lengthy. To help prevent damage, please make sure the gear never touches concrete, and avoid dragging it along the beach or terrace. Don’t rest your knees on the gear while rigging, and be extra careful when taking gear, especially hardboards, in and out of the container.

We’ve provided a useful guide to help you choose the right windsurfing board for your skill level. Please follow this guide to minimize damage - and use the inflatable boards if you’re a beginner.

If you damage any gear, follow these steps to avoid further damage or compromising the safety of your fellow surfers.

  1. Take a photo of the gear and the damage.

  2. Email the photo and details of what happened to helgolandsurfers@gmail.com.

  3. Mark the gear with red/white tape and place it by the racks in the clubhouse workshop.

3. Thanks for Making It Happen!

And Finally, Let’s wrap this up on a high note! A huge shoutout to everyone who helped make our Open House on August 10th and the Helgolympics Summer Party such a success. These events - and our club as a whole - depend on the time, energy, and enthusiasm of all our incredible volunteers. We couldn’t do it without you!
