Æloha Surfers!

The winter break felt a little longer this year, didn't it? Now, the wait is almost over. The season starts on May 1st, and we are ready to kick off what will undoubtedly be a fantastic season. Here’s a bit of news to get you prepped.

1. General Assembly 2026: Big News & Key Updates

Our General Assembly was a great success with engaged members and productive discussions.

Most important news: We are staying! The biggest news is that our application for "kommunalisering" was approved. We now have a formal right-of-use agreement for our premises. This is a massive milestone that provides long-term security for Helgoland Surfers and serves as the foundation for our next big goal: fundraising for a new, modern clubhouse.

You can read the full summary from the General Assembly here: [LINK TO SUMMARY]

Other key takeaways:

  • Membership & Fees: We are still 400 members! Fees remain unchanged for 2026 and will be charged on May 1st.
  • Gear Care – A Shared Responsibility: The 2025 season was extremely hard on our windsurfing gear. Our hardboards are taking damage faster than we can fix them. We urge everyone to choose gear according to their level and report any damages immediately. The board is also looking at new initiatives to ensure beginners will not have access to the advanced hardboards.
  • Moving from Facebook to Spond: A new suggestion at the General Assembly was positively received by members, and we are testing Spond for member-to-member communication to move away from Meta's platforms.

2. Bye-bye to Meta? Testing Spond

Following the proposal at the General Assembly, we have decided to start a trial run with Spond for our member-to-member communication. The goal is to move away from Meta's platforms (Facebook/Messenger) and test a platform built specifically for sports clubs.

All official communication from the board will still be sent via email and Klubmodul. This is a test to see if Spond is the right solution for our member groups, coordinating spontaneous surf sessions, sharing photos, and gear talk. Make sure to keep your contact info updated in Klubmodul!

More information will follow, but we encourage everyone to join the test and help us see if Spond is the right fit for the Helgo community:

  • Join the group here: [JOIN SPOND]
  • Group Code: ZRRDO

3. Check Your Card Before May 1st

The new season means it’s time for the annual membership fee. Please make sure your payment card is up to date in your Klubmodul account before May 1st.

If you need to change your membership status, please email us at helgolandsurfers@gmail.com as soon as possible. Also, remember to double-check your account after May 1st to ensure the payment went through correctly.

4. Workdays: 2025 is Closed – Get Ready for 2026

In 2025, a record-high 1/4 of our members didn't complete their workday. While the 500 kr. fees go to the club, we much prefer your hands and engagement to keep the club running!

Even though members have a full year to get their workday done, we always receive a lot of emails lately from people trying to "just make it." This is a huge administrative task for the board, who is already busy welcoming new members and prepping for the season.

The window for completing your 2025 workday is now closed. We will not accept further completions for the past year. We can only encourage you to get your 2026 workday done early in the season.

Why not kickstart your season by helping out on May 2nd for our first official workday of 2026? Sign up via Klubmodul.

5. New Season and New Members

Because the General Assembly was moved, our intro events for new members are happening in the coming weeks. We’ve had a great number of applicants for Wind, Wing, and Kitesurfing, and we are now welcoming 40+ new members to the club!

Whether you’re new or need a refresh: Youth training will start on Tuesday, May 5th, and Windsurf workshops will start on Thursday, May 7th!
